Thank you for the 'enlightening' paper on The Glory of Christ - with it's honest and helpful presentation. I concur with all that it contains and intend to make others aware of it too!

David:

These are sobering yet encouraging words. What you have captured here may be entirely true for the church in Kenya, but there wasn't anything that the church here isn't struggling to maintain as well. We have been wrestling through many of the same issues - trying always to clarify the one true purpose - to bring glory to God in all things only and always through his son, Jesus Christ.

Quite recently we've been shocked again that it is all too easy to slip into believing a false gospel and idolizing things that ought to have a place of servitude. We want to say, "well, yes, grace, but you need 'x' as well..." - but even when "x" is praying or reading scripture or giving or serving, if we add some contrived list of things needed to please God we are believing a false gospel. We recoil from thinking this applies to us, and yet we seem so bent on making it true!

There is so much in here that is weighty and true and convicting. You wrote, "Sadly, we can have true experience of Christ, and yet it can decline. We can feed on him, a good, satisfying meal – a feast! – and yet then live off the memory of that feast, instead of coming to dine again."

We are truly sheep and need to be reminded again and again. We need to preach the Gospel to ourselves and to others daily, and sometimes hourly. Please be encouraged to continue. Looking forward to the other papers.

Serving Christ With You,
