Jesus, after ministering down in Judea, returned up to his "own" area of Galilee - and his own town of Nazareth where he had grown up. He had become well known around the area; now he came to his own synagogue to preach in. It was not your usual "homecoming", though - if the listeners had had their way, the day would have ended with murder.
