A young, rich, successful man came running to Jesus, and humbly asked him to tell him about eternal life. What a hopeful sign! Surely we would delight to have such people coming to our churches. But in fact, Jesus allowed him to go away when it became clear that the young man was not willing to make the sacrifices of the kingdom. This is a powerful and important passage to tell us the truth about the impossibility of salvation without God first turning our hearts right around.
